Jerry Barnes

Francis Jerome “Jerry” Barnes, 55, of Hillsboro died Aug. 26, 2025, in St. Louis County. Mr. Barnes was the fifth child in a family of eight. He was known for his practicality, wisdom, sensibility and sense of humor and was considered “Jelarious.”  Affectionally known as “Jerbo,” he was usually the quietest and often the smartest person in the room, as he was acutely observant, had an excellent attention to detail and was a good listener. He faced challenges in life with a strong will, determination and Popeye-like strength. He attended grade school at St. Joseph in Imperial and was a St. Pius X High School graduate. He served in the U.S. Navy, and after his service, he began his career as a maintenance and HVAC specialist. He took pride in his profession and was known as a hard worker. He was employed by Public Works and Facility Services of Jefferson County for 33 years, from 1992 until his death. He loved the quiet simplicity of rural life. He enjoyed listening to music, hunting, learning about history and spending time with his family and friends. He was Catholic and loved celebrating the Feast of St. Patrick. Born March 29, 1970, in St. Louis County, he was the son of the late Joanne F. (Haug) and Richard P. Barnes.

He was survived by five siblings: Tammy (John) Hasenpflug of High Ridge, Wendy Barnes of St. Louis, Amy (Tom) Barnes of Town and Country, Patrick (Jen) Barnes of Imperial and Emily (Jeff) Rawlinson of St. Charles; nephews and nieces: Wes, Mia, Max, Graycie and Lyla; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by two siblings: Richard P. Barnes Jr. and David E. Barnes.
