To be a Lancer means to strive for excellence on and off the court and represent the St. Pius X name with the highest levels of faith, integrity and honor. Last year, over 200 Lancer student-athletes competed in 13 varsity sports and three activities; achieving various levels of success.
At St. Pius X, we believe that athletics help develop a well-rounded student-athlete. Wins are important, but not above learning and loving to play a game and of taking care of business in the classroom. Many of our student-athletes and teams have been recognized with All-Academic awards by various groups and organizations.
Over the past four years, our Lancer teams have reached the Final Four seven times, including winning two state championships. In that same span over 250 student athletes have been named to All-Conference, All-District, All-Region and All-State Teams. Over 30 students-athletes have gone on to play a sport at the collegiate level.
St. Pius X High School is a member of the Missouri State High School Athletic Association (MSHSAA) the Jefferson County Activities Association (JCAA) and the I-55 Football Conference.
Athletics Mission Statement
St. Pius X High School is a Catholic community dedicated to the education of the whole person in an environment where extraordinary care and concern for the individual is ordinary.
St. Pius X uses extracurricular activities to supplement the formal classroom environment in furthering the mission statement of the school. These activities build character, confidence and promote mental, physical and moral development. Students from diverse backgrounds are offered as a means to learn positive life skills needed to be valuable members in society. Athletics play an integral part in the education process by striving to:
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, dedication, commitment, self-discipline, unity and Lancer-pride.
- Educate student athletes and spectators on the rules of the game.
- Develop knowledge, skill and teamwork needed to participate in his/her chosen sport.
St. Pius X standards for athletic participation correspond to the requirements established by the Missouri State High School Activities Association. Specifically, in order to be eligible, a student must be currently enrolled in and regularly attending courses that offer a minimum of 3.0 credits and must have earned a minimum of 3.0 credits the preceding semester or 70% of the maximum credits which could be earned, whichever is greater. A student must be making satisfactory progress towards graduation as determined by local school authorities.
